Vitamin V - Value
Vitamin V - Value
Do you Value
yourself? Maybe the better question is,
"How much do you Value yourself?"
Are you Valuable? Does it matter if you don't Value yourself? Think about your answer to each of these
questions.
The definition of the verb value
is, consider (someone or something) to be important or beneficial; to have a
high opinion of.
I remember years of thinking and
believing that I had very little value.
That is before I was convinced that I am created like no other person on
earth and that I have a purpose as unique as I am. There is no one else who has the combination
of personality, experiences and gifts that I have. That makes me an original, and that makes me
valuable.
If that is true for me , and it is,
then it is true for you. So how do we line up our thoughts with this
truth? Does it matter if we do?
Let's go back to some previous
information.
1) The order for processing
circumstances begins with a thought.
Maybe someone made a comment that caused you to question your
value. Maybe it was you! You then create
a thought about that circumstance. You
could agree with the comment - that's a thought. You could remind yourself of your Value in
spite of the comment - that is another thought.
2) The thought you choose, then
will determine your feelings. My
recommendation is to choose the thought that creates the feeling that serves
you as Valuable. Feelings can serve you
by triggering the Relaxation Response or dis-serve you by triggering the Stress
Response leading to poor digestion, low immunity, slow metabolism, low mood,
gut imbalance and plenty more...
3) Your feelings always lead to some sort of action or inaction. Actions of Valuing yourself or actions lacking self Value, ie. bingeing, overeating, eating poor quality food....
4) Our actions create our results. Actions of Valuing ourselves lead to more
actions of Valuing. Actions lacking self
Value often lead to more actions we regret.
The place to start is with our
thoughts! We can't control our
circumstances, but we can control our thoughts.
Choose positive, optimistic, life affirming and uplifting thoughts and
see that changes happen.
I've noticed that so many people
who have eating challenges or weight concerns believe that to get where they
want to go, to find some healing and peace - they need to fight themselves,
fight their appetite, attack their weight, hate on their body fat, and use all
kinds of negative self talk to reach their goals.
I think we'd all agree that a
majority of people who want to lose weight, or who want to conquer their
emotional eating, binge eating, or overeating are motivated because they
believe they will be happier.
They believe they will have more
fun, that they'll love themselves more, and that others might just love them
more as well.
But think about it:
How can a strategy of self-attack and self-hate possibly lead to an end
result of happiness and self-love?
In other words, the journey always
informs the destination.
If the road you take is built on
unhappiness, unlove and dis-value - expect the same to be waiting at your
destination.
"Many clients who were
fiercely committed to attacking their weight, controlling their appetite, or
doing whatever they could to force away their unwanted eating habits or body
fat all had a number of things in common:
· They never got lasting results
· Whatever success they did have was
temporary
· They never felt true Value about who
they were- meaning they had constant sense of feeling "I'm not good
enough, I'm not okay, I'm not lovable"*

Institute for the Psychology of Eating and Marc David)
In whatever part of your life you are working toward growth in, please use a Value based approach. One that comes from Inspiration and kindness, self-respect and dignity.
When you Value yourself, your choices in food, quality, exercise, slowing down and all the other Vitamins will reflect that you are Valuable.
The focus of
my program, Shifting Inside Out, is not about weight loss it is about discovering what your extra
weight is trying to say. It is about
helping you "digest life"- this means that we often have experiences
in life, or circumstances, especially difficult or stressful or hurtful ones.
Now is the time to dissect the
thoughts you have concerning those difficulties. When you discover where the thoughts are
originating, you can then replace those with thoughts of growth, forgiveness and optimism. Your whole body will respond!
Getting rid of body fat isn't going
to solve the problem, figuring out who you need to be in this world will!
