Got Confidence?

Got Confidence?

Have you ever wished you had more confidence?

Have you ever known anyone who didn't?

I know confidence is a concept that seemed to allude me.  The more I chased it the less I seemed to have.

What I didn't know was what true confidence is:

Confidence is the willingness to feel any emotion.

What?!

When I decide to get my Certification as a life coach,  I knew it was going to require hard work, effort, dedication, discomfort and a host of many other emotions that I don't particularly enjoy feeling.

What I didn't know is that when I honored my goal in every little step, the inedible byproduct was confidence.

 Here are the simple steps:

1) Decide on a goal.  Start small.  It could be making your bed every morning for a week.

2) Honor that goal.  Follow through no matter what.

3) Recognize your accomplishment, every-time.

Simple, yes - Easy, sometimes yes, sometimes, no.

This is what happens in our brain when we follow these steps.

First, we make a decision what we are going to think as it applies to something we want to accomplish.  This creates the feelings of determination, which leads to actions, which leads to results.  The bed is made! AHH

Second, on the days we try to talk ourselves out of following through, we have to option of choosing to honor our commitment to ourselves, and do it anyway.

It is on the hard days that the magic happens.  The message we send to ourselves is that "I do matter", "I am capable", "I do care to improve" .  How do we do this?  By choosing thoughts, also knows as making decisions, that move me in the direction of my goals - even if I would rather not.

Take a minute to recognize the accomplishment.  Look at how nice that bed looks!  You did it!

Every time we navigate with our mind and through our emotions, we prove to ourselves that we can accomplish anything even if it feels scary, or uncomfortable, or hard. Recognize it.

You've probably heard the quote,  "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway."

I recommend these thoughts, too:
"Feel the Blah and Do It Anyway,"
"Feel the Unpleasant and Do It Anyway,"
"Feel the Discomfort and Do It Anyway,"

What will you get?  More and more confidence (and a tidy bed, or a slimmer waist-line, or Coaches Certification 😃)
