Is the "Diet" You're On Just a Band-aide?

Image
Is the "diet" you're on just a band-aide?  You've been told that this "diet" is the one for you. You've invested more money in hopes this one will work. You hope that, even though you will have to eat differently than your family, you will still be able to make this work. You're scared that you won't be able to stick to this one either..... You just want to feel better and to feel better about your body. Is that too much to ask?  You feel like you are broken.  What if I told you that even though you feel "broken" there is healing but the "diet" you are on is like putting a band-aide on a broken arm? How effective do you think it will be?  Because of the input you have had in your life, and because you have started believing your thoughts like, "There is something wrong with me." OR "You are never going to change." OR "You will never be able to stick to this....

Stop Overeating with Fruit Infusion

Image
Stop Overeating with Fruit Infusion What is the specific result you want? What would you have to do to get it? What would you need to feel to do those things? What would you need to keep believing to feel that way? Your answers to those questions may feel overwhelming.  The distance between where you are now and where you want to be probably feels impossible. This is normal. I certainly can relate. I felt so frustrated because I could never stick with the latest diet fads. I thought something was wrong with me.  I work with women in free mini sessions to assist them in getting clear on their starting point, understand why they find themselves with these struggles and put that into their GPS, but we don't stop there.   The next step is to clarify the results they want.  I wanted to stop thinking about food all the time and to stop feeling like a failure. In the mini session, we put that into the destination on their GPS.   ...

You Can Cook For Your Family and Stop Overeating

Image
You Can Cook For Your Family and Stop Overeating I remember the years of struggle.  I was trying to juggle all the roles. Mommy - I had three children and the oldest was three and a half. Wife - Married to a rancher/business man who was getting his business off the ground. Cook - Something I did not come by naturally....and all the other roles.   I had these ideas of what kind of nutrition I wanted to provide for my family, but I believed it took too much time and money.  With that mindset I went from over-complicating food prep to throwing my hands in the air and resorting to the quickest and easiest low quality items.   All of this while I was so tired I could hardly function.  I remember waking up feeling as if I had not even slept. My brain fog was like a Linus (from Charlie Brown) cloud following me around. To top it off,  I was cleaning up my kid's plates... all of it, closet eating my favorite sweets and...

What If We Went Into Lent With This?

Image
What If We Went Into  Lent With This? This is the time before Easter! Many of you intentionally turn your focus toward the redeeming work of Christ during these 40 days.  This is fantastic! In his book My Utmost For His Highest, Oswald Chambers   says this, " When the Spirit fills us, we are transformed, and by beholding God we become mirrors." Shifting our focus to Him is always the best use of our thoughts.   When we choose thoughts about "what is right with God" we generate emotions/feelings .  Many of those feelings are the Fruit of the Spirit.   Those Fruit become activated and then turn into actions .   Those actions give us our results.  It all begins with intentionally choosing our thoughts.   These practices and habits can have huge impacts in all areas of our lives.   The women I work with and I practice these habits on a daily basis and we apply them to our...

The Most Important Piece for Your Peace

Image
The Most Important Piece  for Your Peace Have you ever began a weight loss program with a sense of peace?  I'm guessing you haven't.   But what would it be like if you could?  What would be that missing, important piece? When I was struggling in my weight loss journey (I have gained and lost over 200 lbs) I felt frustration, guilt and shame.  These feelings are complete opposites of peace. When I found out the real reasons I was overeating, I began to see that the journey was less of a struggle and more of an adventure.   The real reason I was overeating started not in my stomach, not in my mouth but in my brain! I kept believing that there was something wrong with me.  Honestly,  I thought there are many things wrong with me. When I believed those thoughts, I felt awful.  When I felt awful - I ate.  No wonder it was so hard to lose weight- and if I lost it I gained it back plus some!! 😩😩 Can...

Stinking Thinking

Image
Stinking Thinking I have an inner toddler voice.  She says things like.... "What is wrong with you? You're never going to lose weight."  "You're never going to get this, you might as well have a cookie." "You can't do this, just have a glass of wine." Have you heard your inner voice sounding the same?  Trying to lose weight or accomplish anything will make your inner critic get louder and louder. Our inner voice is how we talk to ourselves.  It is the thoughts we have about ourselves.  It is our belief about ourselves.   These beliefs are well practiced, aren't they? There isn't anything wrong with you because you think these things.  They are just a bunch of sentences or thoughts running around in your head.  They only become a problem when we start judging them or believing them. In the verse Eph. 4:17 It talks about unwholesome talk come our of your mouths.  Unwholesome means the same thing as the smell of ro...

Have an Urge? AIM!

Image
Have  an Urge?  AIM! If you are like me, you know what an urge is. The dictionary defines it as a driving force or impulse. In reality an urge is a feeling.  Most of the time I hear about urges - they involve food.   If you are like I was,  when I had urges for certain foods,  it felt like I was our of control! All I could think about was that food and having it as soon as possible.   Can you relate?  Would you like to know what I learned about urges?  Urges are caused by our thoughts!  Wait! What?! Yes, our thoughts create our urges.  It is true that certain food like substances like refined sugar can influence our bodies to want more and more sugar.  But, when we understand that our prefrontal cortex brain,  the part of you made in the image of God, can be utilized to choose thoughts that serve us,  we set ourselves up to overcome any urge.  That is wh...
