Thank You For Your Patience

"End of Construction - Thank you for your patience" is inscribed on Ruth Graham's burial marker.  

Yes, that is the experience for all of us who believe on Christ our Redeemer and Rescuer.

Like Mrs. Graham, you and I may feel like our experience while we remain here in this world, feels like a never ending construction zone on the highway of life.  

Some of that has to do with our circumstances, but most of it has to do with our thoughts about our circumstance.  

Especially when we begin a journey to create improved results in our lives.

That is when our patience with ourselves has a chance to grow. 

Rather than beating yourself up for mistakes, turn judgement into curiosity.  

You can't struggle your all the way to peace, you have to start there.

When you set out toward a goal - maybe it's time management, maybe it's stress management, maybe it's weight management -  start from a place of love.

Anticipate the gentleness of the Lord .  When self-control is paired with God's gentleness is sounds like, "calm down, don't be afraid, be still and know that I am God."

Self-control allows us to step back and create space between our feelings and our actions.  

Your natural brain isn't going to want to follow through, it's going to want to react with the easy way.  That's okay, because you have the mind of Christ and all the Fruit of the Spirit.  See the verse above? 

You are in charge of what goes on between your ears.  

Remember, as you travel the road to your goal destination, do it from a place of love and patience.

The destination is always going to feel like the journey does.  

We can't hate ourselves into change and expect it to last.  That would mean we would continue with hate to maintain. No thank you.

Are You Okay With It Taking Time?  Every change we make, every accomplishment we achieve takes a certain amount of time.   We could even agree that the greatest accomplishments take more time.   But when it comes to losing weight, we want it to be fast.  This messes with our mind, our emotions and our commitment. I want you to think about when you enrolled in college.  You decided on a field of study and a degree you set out to earn and graduate.   Or, you can think about High School.  You set out to graduate.   When you signed up, you expected that it would take a number of days you would need to continue taking action.  You made a plan, followed through and repeated.....Over and over and over.   When you were a sophomore, did you say to yourself, "I haven't graduated yet I think I'll quit?" The New Normal How do we decide what normal eating is? Who decides?  Is it us or is it culture? Is it my thoughts, or society's thoughts? What is the association we are creating with our thoughts about food being part of our life events? Do we really need pizza and beer to make watching football more enjoyable?  Do we need to have sugary treats to celebrate the Holidays? I personally, had to spend time questioning my involvement in spreading this confusion during family gatherings. One of the qualities I wanted to be known for was to be a good cook.  I had to decide what I thought a "good cook" meant to me.  Was it to bake foods that were loaded with mind altering substances? Or, could I decide that preparing food that was actually higher on the nutritional scale is of more value? Hmm, what an interesting question.  What is my new normal?
