"Just this..." will steal your dreams

"Just this..." will steal your dreams

Are you like me?

Have you heard yourself saying...

"Just this little bite."

Or

"Just this one time."

Or

"Just this drink won't matter."

I have heard myself think that and even say it out loud.  It's seems natural, like pushing the easy button.

What I didn't realize is that each time I heard myself say that, my dreams were stolen.  Actually, I was giving them away.

My primal brain or "toddler brain"  was so quick to make and excuse for me.  It always seemed to start with the phrase..."Just this....."

"Just this..." kept me on the yo-yo diet merry-go-round for decades.

My dreams of feeling comfortable in my clothes, of feeling energetic all day, of having less brain fog, seemed to slip away with that one phrase.

In reality, the underlying message is that I was not valuing myself enough to follow through.

Now I understand when I said, "Just this...",  why it was so hard to keep it from turning into another, "Just this...", and another, and another.

Now I know that if I'm not planning ahead what I am going to eat and drink, I will be relying on my primal brain to make those decisions in the moment and it's completely unfair to my future self because my primal brain will always choose immediate pleasure.
If I didn't override it with my prefrontal, human, higher level brain, I was always at the effect of instant gratification. "Just this..."

Now everything has changed.  I know that losing weight permanently is a series of decisions.  Now I make those decisions from my higher brain.

Step one:  I begin by believing what I am worth.  I find my value in my identity as a beloved child of the King.  Every day, my first job is to remind myself  that I am deeply loved.

Step two:  I create a plan, 24 hours in advance, with decisions regarding everything I will eat and drink.  I write it in a simple meal planner.  I keep it simple.

Step three:  I follow through, no matter what. It is so much easier to just look at the plan and eat what I have planned.  I have so much more mind energy since I'm not spinning about what to find to eat.

Each and every time I complete these three steps, I recognize my wins.

Could it be this simple?  Yes!

One of the most effective tools we have for weight management is our brain.  Period.

I would love to help you transform your relationship with food, your body and most importantly with you,
Love
