Are You Too Afraid to Start Again? 


I remember thinking, why on earth would I want to start another weight loss program?! 

All that will happen is that I will fail again.  

I am a failure.  I'm afraid will repeat the failing....

Have you heard yourself thinking the same things?  

It's okay, I get it.  

Let me take a minute to share one of the most helpful words that helped me break that downward spiral and gave me the courage to attempt one more start.  The start that has made all the difference.

"We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ," - 2 Cor 10:5

What are speculations?  They are the guesses, the predictions, the thoughts that I will fail again. 

This verse tell us that we are destroying them! Not just stopping, not just ignoring them...we are destroying them.  How? 

By taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.  

What does that mean and what difference does it make?  

For me, it meant changing the way I thought about myself.  I had been spending all my thoughts on self-criticism and beating myself up.  Looking for evidence of my unworthiness and lack.  

The change began when I experimented with agreeing with what Christ says about me.  I am forgiven, I am redeemed, I am made new, I am highly favored and deeply loved.  Because of His obedience, I am made worthy.  Period! 

When I began believing that, I began feeling differently about myself and my body.  I began acting from a place of love and appreciation for myself and my body.  Holy Shift!

I'm not perfect, and I do make mistakes, but now I remind myself: when you fail, you don't become a failure. Fail is NEVER final. 

Are you too afraid to start again?

Are You Okay With It Taking Time?  Every change we make, every accomplishment we achieve takes a certain amount of time.   We could even agree that the greatest accomplishments take more time.   But when it comes to losing weight, we want it to be fast.  This messes with our mind, our emotions and our commitment. The New Normal

The New Normal How do we decide what normal eating is? Who decides?  Is it us or is it culture? Is it my thoughts, or society's thoughts? What is the association we are creating with our thoughts about food being part of our life events? Do we really need pizza and beer to make watching football more enjoyable?  Do we need to have sugary treats to celebrate the Holidays? I personally, had to spend time questioning my involvement in spreading this confusion during family gatherings. One of the qualities I wanted to be known for was to be a good cook.  I had to decide what I thought a "good cook" meant to me.  Was it to bake foods that were loaded with mind altering substances? Or, could I decide that preparing food that was actually higher on the nutritional scale is of more value? Hmm, what an interesting question.  What is my new normal?
