How to Stop the Mindless Eating
How to Stop the Mindless Eating
Have you ever looked down at your hands and seen the empty potato chip bag, or looked at the pan of brownies and noticed you have eaten the whole row?
I remember these experiences and I remember the sinking heart I felt afterward.
I felt so out of control. I didn't think there was any way to help.
My instant reaction was to restrict more, criticize myself more and look for a new "diet" plan.
I din't know that each of those steps would just lead to more mindless eating, more self-loathing and the cycle repeated.
Then a ray of hope cam and it came from a place I never imagined would work- my mind and my spirit.
When I learned that it was my thinking that was creating the results I was having , that was both bad news and good news. I was the one responsible for my thoughts feelings and actions. Every bite I took was a choice. When I realized that my mindless eating was the result of not being intentional and planning, it was like a light turned on. I realized I am not at the mercy of food, I am at the mercy of my thoughts.
Are you ready for the good news? I learned that every thought is optional and that I am able to supervise my thoughts and choose those that serve me and my health goals.
Are you ready for the good news? I learned that every thought is optional and that I am able to supervise my thoughts and choose those that serve me and my health goals.
Are you ready for the best news? I have the Holy Spirit in my spirit. Wall to wall and floor to ceiling, I am filled with the Holy Spirit because am adopted as a beloved child of God!
When I intentionally focus on the Fruit of the Spirit in me, I have a whole different mindset. One that has love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. So, I have each of those within me. . When I choose to focus on those attributes as provisions and gifts to me. I behave in a whole different way. I behave with love, because I am loved. I behave with self-control because I have self-control. He tells me I have it.
As I re-frame my thoughts, I use the part of my brain that God made in His image - my planning and higher level thinking - prefrontal cortex..
When I plan in advance what I decide to eat 24 hours from now, I choose better choices and plan according to my health goals. When it's time to eat, I stick to my plan. Period. No drama, no negotiating, no confusion, no guilt. Only follow through and building integrity with myself.
Planning isn't restrictive, planning is kindness, peace and self-control.
